The Pakelo Krypton engine oil serie certainly stands out within our product range for cars. People often ask us about the difference between the Krypton XT, Krypton XT LA, Krypton XT LA-V and Krypton XT LA 4 products, but to be able explain it, it is best to illustrate the ACEA specifications first.
Over the last few years, automotive technology has made progress in leaps and bounds, and so have engine oil requirements. The acronyms ACEA A/B and C represent crucial classifications to identify the performance and service life of modern engines. One of the main differences between these categories concerns the SAPS level, i.e. the levels of Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous and Sulphur, a key factor for the formulation of engine oils.
Oils classified under ACEA A/B are designed for conventional petrol and diesel engines for cars and light commercial vehicles. These categories include:
ACEA A/B oils contain high SAPS levels, offering excellent detergent and anti-wear properties. However, the high presence of SAPS components reduces compatibility with the emission control systems of modern engines. For this reason, the ACEA C category was developed, to meet the need to protect sophisticated exhaust gas post-treatment systems, which are increasingly common in modern petrol and diesel engines. By reducing the quantity of Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous and Sulphur, these oils help extend the service life of the systems and maintain optimal vehicle performance.
The subcategories include:
Choosing the right engine oil is essential to ensure optimal vehicle performance and a long service life. With the continuous evolution of engine technologies, engine oil specifications will continue to adapt, paying ever greater attention to the balance between mechanical performance and environmental sustainability.
The main differences between the products of the Krypton car engine oil serie:
To choose the right engine oil, it is necessary to check the car’s maintenance user manual (MUM): the lubrication section features the specifications and viscosity grades that the different fluids used in the vehicle must have, including the engine oil. If the car provides for the use of an oil with Full SAPS additive, it is also possible to use lubricants containing a Mid or Low SAPS chemistry. By contrast, if the car is designed to be used with an engine oil with Low SAPS technology, only engine lubricants with Low Ash chemistry can be used. The use of oils with a higher ash level would irreversibly compromise the various exhaust gas treatment systems.
Let us now take a look at the difference between the products for motorbikes: Krypton MBK and Krypton MBK Racing.
