The Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (JASO), is an organization that sets automotive standards in Japan, which is the correspondent of the American SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).
In Japan, engine oil products meeting ILSAC or API standards, which are global gasoline engine-oil standards, have been pervasive. However, owing to difficulty in assessing engine oils at SAE 0W-12 or lower viscosity grades using existing fuel economy test methods, many JAMA (Japan Automotive Manufacturers Association) and PAJ (Petroleum Association of Japan) member companies developed a new Jaso oil standard in 2019:
- JASO GLV-1 developed as a standard with low viscosity and excellent fuel economy, and engine reliability equivalent to the ILSAC GF-5 / API SN standard.
Jaso rating for diesel engines (in the latest edition of 2017) is the following one:
- DH-1-17, DH-2-17, DL-0-17
- DH-2F-17 (with Fuel Economy properties)
- DL-1-17 (only for xW-30 and xW-20 viscosities)
