Italian Rookie Matteo Nannini debuts in F2

Bahrain Gp Circuit, March 28th 2021. F2 season opens with a competitive round at Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain. Pakelo Lubricants supports three young and talented drivers here: Japanese driver Marino Sato, Dutch Bent Viscal of Trident Motorsport plus the young Italian rookie Matteo Nannini of HWA Racing Team. For Nannini Sakhir was a true baptism of fire since he comes from Formula 3 Regional Championship in 2020 and this year he is going to take part to F2 and F3 championships at the same time.

On saturday 27th Lawson and Piastri were protagonists of Race 1 and Race 2 respectively. Trident got its first points of the championship with Sato's P8 in Race 2, after an unlucky Race 1. Matteo Nannini, the 17-year old coming from Emilia Romagna in Italy improved his pace race by race. From qualifying session that saw him at the bottom of the line to a halfway P14 in Race 1 and a good P9 in Race 2. Feature's race on Sunday gets him the first points in the championship. Unfortunately for Trident Team Feature Race is tricky instead. Marino Sato and Bent Viscal got penalties for the violation of the safety car period which forced them to stay in the second half of the group.

At the end of this first FIA formula 2 weekend race the general standing is led by Chinese 22-year old Guanyu Zhou of Uni-Virtuosi team that kept a regular pace throughout the whole weekend, followed by English 19-year old Liam Lawson (rookie in F2 championship) and Indian 21-year old Jehan Daruvala.

The grid is very competitive and aggressive. 22 drivers from all over the world run F2 chasing the chance to shine and get a place in Formula 1. For the moment let's focus on the next round that would take place in Montecarlo at the end of May.
